A Special Show
So, there has been a delay in postings due to us taking off to sunny Mehico and drinking our bodyweight in Pina Coladas. It was tough but someone had to do it...
On our return I had a few rides on my ginger one before heading off to a show an hour into the Mountains in Pine, Colorado.
The weather was warm but not boiling hot and we had a chance to warm up in the little indoor before we went in, he warmed up great and we headed off to the beautiful outdoor in the middle of the forest glade! As soon as we got near the arena I could feel he was really worried, the flies were crazy and he felt pretty tense. Regardless we went in and rode the test as best we could. He tried his little heart out but really felt tight and I didn't feel that I got him to relax at all through the test, he wanted to be with me and wanted to listen, but he struggled with the atmosphere and ended up side stepping out the arena oops! Our second test and he was still dealing with some tension and nerves. Oh, and we may have shown a few gymnastics during our tests that aren't necessarily required... We did have beautiful moments and he got his love and cuddles as always, he tried so darn hard! Then came, maybe my highlight of the year, peeople started to come past and comment on how gorgeous he is and how well I had ridden him. Whilst I was finishing untacking him I saw a lady hanging back waiting to speak with me and she asked if she could come and pet him. Of course I said he would love it. She then said something so lovely. She again said how beautifully I had ridden him and how it had really affected her that we had a lovely relationship. She told me how it had made her day, to see two souls who just seemed to be working together and figuring things out as one. She said she could see the wonderful relationship and affection that we have for each other. Well, I was already proud of all my boy had given me during the tests but what a sweet and lovely thing to hear. That is for me, you see, the crux of it. This is reason I ride, and the reason I show. It's all about this partnership, my wonderful horse, my sweet souled boy. Not only do I feel it, but if people look closely, they can even start to see it. And that my darling friends, that, makes me very, very proud.
