Food Envy

Image
Food Envy... its a bugger isnt it! We've all done it. Spent ages deciding between two dishes on a restaurants menu.. "I want the fish... no the steak... no the fish". Eventually the waiter arrives and in a fluster you order fish, only to sit there thinking you may have made the wrong choice the whole time that you are awaiting for your meal to turn up. When it does, and the steak that your partner ordered rocks up looking juicy and delicious and the fish somewhat flaccid... the dreaded food envy clicks in and can run an entire evening out. I remember whilst horse hunting I thought about this a lot. Well not the food but the other part. The have I made the wrong choice part, is there a better juicy warmblood just waiting to appear on the market. When I first saw the advert for Axel and then made a pretty fast decision on him I wondered if those feelings would kick off. If whilst browsing the sales adverts I would see better options, cuter options etc. We have kind of gon...

Bellyaching

I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like to have ulcers as a horse. Not only do you have to deal with some immense belly pain, but then you have some heffalump heaving themselves onto your back and bumping their legs onto the very areas that hurt. My poor boy has been so very sore, we have been trying to be as respectful as possible to him during this time, whilst not wanting him to just sit and lose condition and muscle. Maybe its because he likes the wind blowing through his long locks while he channels his inner Marilyn Monroe. Maybe it is because I am a rather lax leader at times and a stroll in the field means ignore the d*head on board and just stuff your face as many times during the ride as possible. Ignore her when...

So many things

I am sorry for my tardiness in this posting! I realise it has been way too long and life has been a little crazy over the last few weeks in so many ways. Axel and I have had a little blip in the road but I will tell more on that front further on in the blog. Last week my wonderful friend Angela took Axel and I and her horse Lola over an hours road trip away, to meet Barefoot guy Philip Himanka. I found Philip through my friend Krista of Buddys Barefoot Adventures who's incredible with the equine foot and has a lot of experience and knowledge on barefoot rehab. She has contacts around the world and through  PHCP  we eventually found Philip. Axel travelled really well and I was super happy with his behaviour for the trip. Once we got there Philip really took his time with each horse and explained in detail to us how to help care for them in between visits and explained the strengths and weaknesses in each of their feet. The great news is Axel has really good, strong feet th...
